Janine Kieran, M.Ed., Leadership Coach

Janine Kieran works as a consultant with PowerTools as a Leadership Coach. She is a retired Principal from George Westinghouse High School, and during her 34-year career in this school, she served as a Special Educator, Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal of Guidance and finally, Principal. This unique journey enabled her to develop keen insights into the roles and responsibilities of staff in these positions as well as the diverse needs of students and their families.

It has been her firm belief that schools must be a safe and supportive place for students, that include diverse learning opportunities and celebrations of student success. As such, during her tenure as a school leader, Janine focused on supporting teaching and learning that was engaging and student-centered. Student advisories and restorative practices were also implemented under her leadership. Respect and open lines of communication were key tenets to her leadership style, and as such, staff participated in design teams organized by grade and content areas. Janine has coordinated and facilitated professional learning opportunities and retreats dedicated to team-building and strengthening relationships.
